In one line

Grab it if you add ice every morning and want a bottle with a lifetime warranty that one brush can clean end to end.

Look elsewhere if it has to ride in a car cup holder. CleverHiker's answer to that is the narrower Hydro Flask Standard Mouth, and our Stanley IceFlow pick has a handle for the car.

What to know about the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth

This is the bottle most people end up buying a second time. CleverHiker's reviewer left it in full sun for a day at a Utah climbing crag and found the water still cold with ice left in the afternoon. Drops onto rock left a few dings and scuffs.

The listing for the Chug version gives a 3.5 in base, 10.25 in height and 1.15 lb empty. Maker text says 24 hours cold and a lifetime warranty, and the Flex Cap listing adds 12 hours hot. CleverHiker weighs the 32 oz at 15.5 oz and warns that the larger sizes miss most cup holders.

Where it loses is price and weight. Across ten color listings of the 32 oz, the dearest cost about 75 percent more than the cheapest on the same day, so the color you click moves the bill more than the cap does. Care text is split too: the Chug listing's spec table says hand wash while its bullets say dishwasher safe.

Living with it

Which cap to buy

Start with the cap. All three caps fit the same wide mouth. For gulping on the move, get the Flex Chug, since its narrow spout stops the splash a wide mouth gives you. The Flex Straw suits desk sipping, though CleverHiker says to keep hot drinks out of the straw lid. A plain Flex Cap is the cheapest way in, and a straw lid can be added later for about $9.

Check the seller

On 10/27 the Flex Chug listing we link was sold by Great Deals Best Price Store with two left in stock. The Black Flex Cap listing was sold by Amazon and cost less. Prices from third-party sellers move faster, so look at the line under the price before you buy.

How long it lasts

CleverHiker has used its Hydro Flask for years, and the damage it reports is a worn paint job and a few dents. The cap goes first. It is also the cheapest part to replace, and because the mouth is a standard wide size you can choose from Hydro Flask's own caps or third-party ones, which is how a ten-year-old bottle ends up with a two-year-old lid. The roughly $9 straw lid in our accessories is one of those third-party options.

Common questions

How long will ice actually last?

Hydro Flask claims 24 hours cold, and CleverHiker left it in full desert sun for a day with ice still inside that afternoon. Open the cap less and you get closer to the claim.

Will it fit my car cup holder?

The Chug listing gives a 3.5 in base, and CleverHiker says the larger sizes miss most cup holders. If your holder measures under about 3.6 in, an expander or a narrower bottle is the answer.

Is the material safe: lead, BPA, plastic?

The listing describes pro-grade stainless steel and BPA-free parts. None of the Hydro Flask listings we read mention the base seal, so ask Hydro Flask for a written answer if that question matters to you.

FAQ

How tall is the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth, and how wide is the base?

10.25 in tall and 3.5 in across the base on the 10/27/2026 listing. That is a common size for an insulated 32 oz, and it is too wide for many car holders. Measure yours across the bottom of the cup, not the rim.

How much does the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth weigh full?

18.4 oz empty on the listing, so roughly 51.7 oz with all 32 oz of water inside. CleverHiker's scale read 15.5 oz for the same size, lighter than the listing's 1.15 lb, so treat the listing number as the upper end.

Can the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth go in the dishwasher?

The bullets say lid and bottle are dishwasher safe, and the Flex Cap listing's care field agrees. Only the Chug listing's spec table says hand wash. CleverHiker lists it as dishwasher-safe, so the conflict looks like a listing slip.

Is the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth worth it?

Yes, if you add ice every morning and want a bottle with a lifetime warranty that one brush can clean end to end.

What should I buy instead of the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth?

it has to ride in a car cup holder. CleverHiker's answer to that is the narrower Hydro Flask Standard Mouth, and our Stanley IceFlow pick has a handle for the car.
